Cold weather is postponing the closure of East Milwaukee Street until the week of Jan. 8, city officials announced Thursday.
East Milwaukee Street under Interstate 90/39 was scheduled to be closed Tuesday through Friday, Jan. 2-5, so crews could demolish and replace the overpass as part of the I-90/39 expansion project.
Instead, the Department of Transportation will close the street from Jan. 8 through 12, according to a news release.
The work will affect Janesville Transit System routes. The outbound East Milwaukee Street routes will detour north onto Pontiac Drive past Milwaukee Street, east onto Mount Zion Avenue, south onto Morningside Drive, and east onto Milwaukee Street to resume the regular route. The inbound will take the same detour in reverse, according to the release.
The Nightside East Route will detour south onto Morningside Drive, west onto Mount Zion Avenue, south onto Pontiac Drive and west onto Milwaukee Street to resume the regular route, according to the release.
