Two marches to rally for gun reform and school safety will take place in Janesville this month.

The first will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, and is sponsored by Rock Valley Fellowship of Reconciliation. It begins at Lower Courthouse Park on South Main Street.

The march is on the same day as an organized demonstration called “March for Our Lives” in Washington, D.C. Thousands are expected to join students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, who organized the demonstration in the nation’s capital.

Students at the Parkland, Florida, high school came up with the idea after 17 people died in a mass shooting at their school.

The second march, called 50 Miles More, starts in Madison, where students from around the state will gather March 24.

Students will embark on a 50-mile, four-day trek to Janesville, home of House Speaker Paul Ryan, on Sunday, March 25. They will urge Ryan to take action to enact gun reform at a noon rally Wednesday, March 28, at Traxler Park. Students who want to participate can register at 50miles more.org.
