Two Janesville teens and a Beloit man have been arrested in a shooting reported on Janesville’s west side Monday, authorities said.
Janesville police arrested Hunter A. Jass, 18, of Janesville; Kobe L. Wethal, 17, of Janesville; and Damien L. Buchanan, 21, of Beloit in connection with a shooting around 7:30 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of South Academy Street, according to a police department alert released Wednesday evening.
Investigators believe Buchanan, Jass and Wethal, along with three others, visited apartment No. 3 at 320 S. Academy St. on Monday evening, where “a drug-related disturbance” occurred, according to the alert.
Police believe Buchanan opened fire outside the residence with a .40-caliber handgun, firing “seven rounds” at the residence, according to the alert.
Police said Jass brought two handguns to the residence. He went inside the Academy Street apartment at one point but came back outside. After that, police said, Jass and Wethal were outside the building when Buchanan apparently opened fire toward the building.
No one was injured, and police confiscated the gun used in the shooting, according to the alert. Police did not give more details about the incident, and the alert did not disclose when or where the men were arrested.
The three were being held at the Rock County Jail, and police are investigating the incident further, according to the alert.
Buchanan was arrested on suspicion of endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon. Jass was arrested on suspicion of being party to a crime-endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon and probation violation. Wethal was arrested on suspicion of probation violation, according to the alert.
