A Janesville man who had just left a grocery store with his wife was confronted by a man who demanded money Thursday afternoon, and the two struggled before the robber took the man’s wallet, Janesville police said.

Police eventually arrested Devonti M. Wilson, 33, of Janesville, while he was standing in front of Jefferson Elementary School, 1831 Mount Zion Ave., on a charge of robbery, Sgt. Charles Aagaard said.

The robber drove away from Sentry Foods, 2822 E. Milwaukee St., and the victim, 68, followed the robber in his vehicle, Aagaard said.

Aagaard said the robber stopped a block west of the store and fled on foot before police located him. Police dog Fred assisted in the tracking, according to a news release.

The incident was reported at about 1:50 p.m. No one was injured, Aagaard said.

Wilson was unarmed when police found him and arrested him without incident, according to the release.
