JANESVILLE—Janesville police utilized their police dog to track down and arrest a theft suspect early Sunday morning, according to a news release.

Police arrested Jermone D. Stewart, 33, of Beloit, after a theft victim said a man came up to his or her car at a stoplight at North Parker Drive and East Milwaukee Street and took the wallet off his or her lap, according to the release.

The man later identified as Stewart left on foot and then police and their dog tracked him down near East Milwaukee Street and North Atwood Avenue, the release states. Stewart consented to a search, and police found property of the victim on and near him.

Stewart was taken to the Rock County Jail before an initial court appearance, according to the release. He was arrested on charges of felony theft from person and a probation violation.
