Janesville police have referred a 9-year-old boy to juvenile authorities on a charge of criminal damage to property.
The charge is in connection to damage to a war memorial in Traxler Park.
The damage was reported Monday, April 9. Part of a rifle was broken off a monument and left at the site, according to a news release from the police department.
The Janesville Patriotic Society estimated the damage at $6,500.
With help from a resident, the department's patrol division was able to identify the parties involved in the incident, according to the release.
