A woman whose body was found at a truck stop in South Beloit, Illinois, was likely killed north of the state line in the town of Beloit, officials believe.

A truck driver found the body Nov. 1 at the Road Ranger truck stop on Gardner Road in South Beloit, according to information from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office released Friday.

The woman was identified as Nakiela A. Thompson, 27, of Milwaukee.

A Winnebago County Coroner’s Office report issued late Friday indicated Thompson died from “asphyxia” of an uncertain cause but did not give further details.

Detectives with the sheriff’s office in Winnebago County investigated the death by speaking with Thompson’s friends and associates in the Beloit area over the last few weeks, according to the news release.

Thursday, Winnebago County detectives were interviewing Marco A. Rodriguez at the Beloit Police Department when Rodriguez told them Thompson died in the town of Beloit, according to the release.

Rodriguez said he did not kill Thompson, but he moved her body, leaving it at the Road Ranger truck stop, according to the release.

Rock County sheriff’s deputies arrested Rodriguez, 50, at 6 p.m. Thursday on a charge of hiding a corpse. He is being held at the Rock County Jail and is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Rock County Court on Monday.

Rodriguez also is a suspect in the death, said Capt. Todd Christiansen of the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, which now is involved in the investigation.

Christiansen said he hoped to meet with Rock County District Attorney David O’Leary later Friday to discuss charges.

Rodriguez told investigators Thompson died at R&D Tire, 1591 Huebbe Parkway, Christiansen said.

That’s the same address where Rodriguez said he was living, Christiansen said.

Rock County sheriff’s detectives and town of Beloit police officers executed two search warrants Thursday night in the town of Beloit, according to the release. does not condone or review every comment. Read more in our Commenter Policy Agreement
