Authorities say Janesville resident Kimberly A. Adams faces a charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle after the death of a man injured while in the passenger seat of an SUV Adams crashed Nov. 29 in Janesville.

According to a criminal complaint filed Friday with the Rock County District Attorney, Adams, 47, of 1532 Ontario Drive, Janesville, was driving intoxicated after visiting a casino and a tavern Nov. 29 when she crashed into a parked car in the 2900 block of Randolph Road on the east side at about 8 p.m. The crash sent the SUV airborne, and it landed on its roof, according to the complaint.

The crash injured Adams’ passenger, Daniel P. Johnson, 56, who shared the same address as Adams, according to Janesville police reports. Johnson was hospitalized, and he died Wednesday morning at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville, according to the criminal complaint.

Johnson had sustained abdominal injuries and a punctured lung in the crash. He suffered cardiac arrest and had to be revived en route to the hospital, according to the complaint.

A woman who witnessed the crash said she was getting out of her own parked vehicle when she said Adams’ vehicle almost hit hers. Instead, it hit a parked vehicle just in front of hers, then flew through the air and overturned.

Adams is also charged with operating while intoxicated, second offense.

She told police she and Johnson had gone to a Madison casino and a tavern before heading to a restaurant in Janesville. Adams said she was driving home when she crashed into a parked vehicle. She said she didn’t remember hitting the vehicle.

Adams was previously convicted of intoxicated driving in January 2010, according to the complaint.
