Janesville and Beloit police and the Rock County Sheriff’s Office plan extra enforcement of intoxicated-driving laws on St. Patrick’s Day and the next Friday, March 23, according to a news release from the city of Beloit.

Extra officers will be on the road and on the lookout for impaired driving in an operation called the Rock County Impaired Driving Enforcement Task Force.

The goal is to reduce impaired driving. Those who plan to use any drugs or alcohol are urged to arrange for a sober designated driver, take public transit or a taxi, or ask a sober friend to drive them home.

The release also recommends a safe ride home plan through a Wisconsin Tavern League program; go online to www.tlw.org and click on “Safe Ride.”

The state provides a free “Drive Sober” mobile app that includes a blood alcohol estimator, designated driver selector and a find-a-ride feature that uses a smartphone’s GPS to locate alternative transportation.
