The Rock County Sheriff’s Office cited 12 clerks last month during checks for liquor-law violations, according to a news release.

Janesville Mobilizing 4 Change helped deputies in the checks, in which underage young adults entered 38 businesses around the county and tried to buy alcoholic beverages. They were denied at 26 businesses. Employees asked to see identification and did not proceed with the sale, according to the release.

An employee at each of the other 12 businesses sold alcohol to the underage person, according to the release.

The violations occurred at Hat Rack Tap, Avalon; The Showboat, Edgerton; Tree House Bar and Grill, Janesville; Shady Nook, Janesville; JR’s Pub, Milton; Bobbleheads, Janesville; Chubby Bubba’s, Janesville; Jake’s Mobil, Janesville; Shopiere Tap, Clinton; Orfordville Citgo-The Station; Stables, Orfordville; and Tex’s Too, Clinton.

“We pride ourselves in being a friendly and proactive sheriff’s office, and we simply ask area businesses to fulfill their responsibilities in regard to alcohol sales. This request for cooperation is a necessary effort by our community to reduce the availability of alcohol to our youth,” the news release states. does not condone or review every comment.
