A rural Milton man was charged with homicide by intoxicated driving Monday after the passenger in a car he was driving March 31 died.

Skylair A. Buckham, 21, of 4807 E. Milton-Harmony Townline Road, was also charged with hit and run resulting in death.

Buckham previously faced charges reflecting only injuries to the passenger, Lukas A. Christofferson, 19, of Stoughton.

Christofferson died Thursday as the result of injuries from the crash, according to the Rock County Medical Examiner’s Department.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the single-vehicle crash at 2:20 a.m. March 31 on Dorner Road west of Highway 213 in the town of Spring Valley. They found a car that left the road and hit a tree, according to the criminal complaint.

Deputies tended to Christofferson until medical help arrived, according to the criminal complaint.

Deputies reported Buckham was not at the crash site, but they found him later that morning.

Buckham told deputies he and Christofferson were at a party in Brodhead earlier that night and that Buckham had been drinking and smoking marijuana, according to the complaint.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Tuesday in Rock County Court.
