Details: The cookout has been going on for more than 40 years and will feature live music while people eat, Rock County Beef Producers President Abe Arndt said.
He’s hoping for about 3,000 people, which is what the cookout has drawn in recent years.
The big crowd is essential to supporting the beef producers’ annual scholarships, he said.
The local agriculture organization doles out a few $1,000 scholarships each year, and it also spends about $5,000 to $6,000 each summer at the Rock County 4-H Fair’s meat animal sale.
The cookout raises most of that money, Arndt said.
The meat comes from Sorg’s Quality Meats and Sausages in Darien.
Area beef farmers will prepare the food, and visitors can ask them questions about how beef farming works.
“It is an excellent steak at a very reasonable cost that goes to supporting kids in our county,” Arndt said.
