— Five candidates—three incumbents and two newcomers—are running for three seats on the Orfordville Village Board.

Kurt Fullmer (I)

Age: 53

Address: 411 W. Beloit St., Orfordville.

Job: Insurance agent

Education: Associate degree in maintenance and machining from Blackhawk Technical College in 1989

Community service: Past president of friends of the library—GOAL: Greater Orfordville Area Library, past president of International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers Local 1197 Beloit

Elected posts: Orfordville Village Board trustee for two terms

Major campaign issues: To maintain a balanced budget and foster an environment in the village that encourages families and businesses to relocate here.

Alvin Hammell

Age: 53

Address: 604 N. Maple St., Orfordville.

Job: Caregiver

Education: 1977 Parkview High School graduate

Community service: None

Elected posts: None

Major campaign issues: Stop the spending spree. Get a little transparency in the workings of the board. It's time for some changes to be made, but I don't think a new Village Hall without a referendum should be one of them.

Dale Peterson (I)

Age: 53

Address: 403 E. Howe St., Orfordville.

Job: Self-employed antique dealer

Education: 1977 Brodhead High School graduate

Community service: Viking youth baseball coach for past eight years

Elected posts: Orfordville Village Board trustee since 1995

Major campaign issues: There are many issues including the continued economic growth of our business community, aging infrastructure concerns and a “just plain common sense” approach to exploring options and agreeing on solutions on everything that is put before us maintaining a fiscal conservative outcome that is beneficial to all.

Beth Schmidt (I)

Age: 54

Address: 110 S. Wright St., Orfordville.

Job: Server trainer at Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar

Education: Associate degree in accounting from Blackhawk Technical College in 1990

Community service: Assistant with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, organized March of Dimes Walk for Applebee's, helped coordinate Day of Hope at Central Christian Church, mentor for youth, spending many hours at the high school, member of village library committee, public works board and planning commission.

Elected posts: Orfordville Village Board trustee since April 2011

Major campaign issues: In 2011 I listened to our residents and took their concerns back to the board. We worked successfully and responsibly, accomplishing several items to move this community forward, while being responsible to our taxpayers. I humbly ask for another term to continue to work (for) our community.

Charles Spry

Age: 53

Address: 305 E. Beloit St., Orfordville.

Job: Public relations/media relations at Columbus 151 Speedway, receiving department at Colony Brands in Monroe and part-time merchandiser at 7UP in Watertown.

Education: 1977 Parkview High School graduate, associate degree in business management from Blackhawk Technical College in 2011.

Community service: None

Elected posts: None

Major campaign issues: Prioritize on issues that have an effect on taxpayers. We have streets in disrepair and water mains breaking, and we are installing sand volleyball courts instead. You must finish the main course before you can have dessert. Allow citizens to vote on more issues. Be more receptive to the media.
