— An Elkhorn man on Wednesday pleaded not guilty in Walworth County Court to a charge that he sexually assaulted a 4-year-old girl at his home.

The Walworth County District Attorney's Office is charging Adam Luerssen, 30, with one county of first-degree child sexual assault.

Luerssen was arrested Dec. 17 in the Town of Sugar Creek, jail officials said. He entered the not-guilty plea Wednesday through his counsel, District Attorney Daniel Necci said.

The 4-year-old told a forensic interviewer Dec. 14 about incidents in which Luerssen would make her perform sex acts in his room, according to court documents.

Necci could not comment on whether or not the assaults happened multiple times, or whether Luerssen would face more than the single charge of child sexual assault.

If convicted, Luerssen could face up to 60 years in prison. He was released from jail on a $50,000 signature bond Dec. 27, with conditions that he not have any contact with the girl, her family or any child younger than 16.
