Area United Way offering free prescription cards
A free prescription card distributed by United Way Blackhawk Region to area residents saved 16,859 people more than $1.4 million on costs for medicine in 2012, according to a local United Way news release.
According to the release, this was accomplished through the FamilyWize Community Service Partnership by offering free prescription cards to those in the Blackhawk Region who are without insurance or who have insurance that doesn't cover prescription medications.
Average savings are nearly 40 percent and can be as high as 75 percent with the cards, which are at most pharmacies including chain pharmacies and groceries. The card often saves users about $20 per prescription, the release said.
To get a prescription card, call the United Way Blackhawk Region at 608-313-8692. Cards also can be downloaded at familywize.org or by texting "family" to 700700.
FamilyWize partners with nearly 1,000 local United Ways nationwide.
