— A developer wants to build a CVS pharmacy in the Big Lots parking lot on Milton Avenue in Janesville.

The pharmacy would be located in the northeastern corner of Milton Avenue and Black Bridge Road.

The owner of the property, Johnson Acquisition Corp., will ask the Janesville City Plan Commission for conditional-use permits for a two-lane drive-through and for an electronic message center. It also needs a permit to share access to adjoining streets.

The plan commission will hold a public hearing on the development at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 18, in City Hall, 18 N. Jackson St.

The pharmacy would be 13,225 square feet and be located on 1.21 acres. The parcel would be created by dividing the western portion of the Big Lots/Planet Fitness site from the rest of the property. The site is now excess parking for the retail center.

A CVS pharmacy also is located at 1832 W. Court St.

The developer hopes to open the new store in early fall.

The developer this week plans to tear down the building that housed Cost Cutters, which was located next to Planet Fitness. Under the lease agreement with Planet Fitness, the developer must make room for more parking, said Gale Price in the city’s community development department.

Cost Cutters moved across Milton Avenue next to Walgreens.

I agree with the rude employees at the CVS west side. I won't go there any longer. I go to Target now when I need anything. They are always nice. Only down side I can't go in there just to pick up a prescription, I leave with much more.

Just like fast food these places like to be close to each other. CVS and Walgreens are both trying to be top dog nationally.
Both brands also now prefer their own standalone buildings, ideally with corner exposure, to being in a strip mall.

Why do they need to be across the street from Walgreens? Unfortunately my employer dictates that I must get my prescriptions at CVS.

I have never been to a pharmacy that has more rude employees than the CVS on the west side of Janesville.

I sure hope that if CVS opens on the east side, they do not allow any of the rude employees to come to the new location.

CVS had a store just 2 blocks south of there a couple years ago across the parking lot from Logli's. They closed it no doubt due to the cometition from Walgreen's on the northwest corner of Milton and Blackbridge. Yet now they're building a new one directly across the street from Walgreen's. Well, at least when that one fails, it should be easier to find a new tenant for the new building, unlike CVS' old location on Creston Park Drive, which remains empty since CVS vacated it.

We sure "need" another pharmacy in Janesville. (Insert sarcasm)
