— A Whitewater maker of automotive controls was one of eight Wisconsin companies honored Thursday night as a “Manufacturer of the Year.”

HUSCO Automotive Holdings was recognized with a special award for technology innovation and impact.

The company designs and manufactures electro-hydraulic controls used in automotive applications. Its product strategy is based on developing innovative new technologies such as cam phasing, cylinder deactivation, advanced transmissions, and start-stop systems to improve the fuel efficiency of internal combustion engines.

Celebrating its 25th year, the Manufacturer of the Year Award program recognizes manufacturers of all sizes and industries for their contributions to Wisconsin. An independent panel of judges representing industry, education and the public sector selected the winners.

Judges said HUSCO’s knowledge and expertise regarding the development of advanced powertrain components allowed the company to design new components quicker and at a lower cost than their competitors.

HUSCO has created more than 100 full-time jobs, plus a large number of college interns and co-ops, judges noted.

Other winners were Greenheck Fan Corp., Schofield; Walker Forge, Clintonville; Weldall Mfg., Waukesha; Power Test, Sussex; OEM Fabricators, Woodville; Alliance Laundry Systems, Ripon, and Nekoosa Coated Products, Nekoosa.

“The determination of the winning companies to remain forward-thinking, stay ahead of the competition in research and development and deliver cutting-edge technology is something all Wisconsin businesses should strive to achieve,” said Tim Christen, CEO of Baker Tilly, one of the program sponsors.

Other sponsors include the law firm of Michael Best & Friedrich and the business association Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce.
