— After five years at the helm of The Gathering Place senior center in Milton, Executive Director Paula Schutt is moving on.

Schutt announced her resignation in December to take a new job as director at Grinnell Hall, Beloit's city-run senior center.

Schutt said she starts work at Grinnell Hall on Monday.

Grinnell Hall Director John Kalkirtz is retiring Jan. 11 after more than two decades at the helm of the senior center. Schutt said she decided to take the post in Beloit last month.

For five years, Schutt has led operations, fundraising and public relations for the private nonprofit Gathering Place. The senior center is tangentially connected to the city of Milton. Last year, the city paid about $9,000 of the Gathering Place's costs to operate.

Grinnell Hall, on the other hand, is funded and run mainly through the city of Beloit.

"I'm lucky that I've had the chance to work at a nonprofit, and now I get to see what it's like to run a city-run center. I'm looking forward to that opportunity," Schutt said.

Schutt said The Gathering Place board of directors plans to interview executive director candidates within the next month.
