— The UW-Whitewater men's basketball team took care of its business, and then received a gift courtesy of UW-Platteville.

The second-seeded Warhawks defeated visiting UW-Stout, 64-59, in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinal game Thursday night. When Platteville upset top-seeded UW-Stevens Point, 60-56, the Warhawks earned the right to host the title game against the Pioneers at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Whitewater (22-4) lost twice to the Pointers in the regular season. The Warhawks defeated the Pioneers twice this season, by 13 points at Platteville and by 14 at home.

The Warhawks scored the first 10 points of the game against the Blue Devils, and then withstood a second-half rally that allowed Stout to tie the game at 51 and 53.

Whitewater led by just one, 58-57, when Warhawk freshman Darnell Harris hit a three-pointer.

Quardell Young led the Warhawks with 16 points. Eric Bryson added 14, Luke Knoble 12 and Harris had 11.

Whitewater advances to its eighth title game in the 15-year history of the WIAC tournament.
