— Craig and Parker High each entered Monday's Big Eight Conference boys soccer match hungry for a conference victory.

After Peyton Wunn gave Craig a 1-0 lead at 24 minutes, 51 seconds of the first half and Parker's Pedro Arvizo scored at 35:33 to knot it 1-1, the game boiled down to a tense second-half battle.

With each team missing scoring opportunities, Parker junior Isaac Brodkey finally broke through and scored with 86 seconds remaining to play to give the Vikings a 2-1 victory over the visiting Cougars.

"It was a quick break down the field," Parker coach Andy Holmes said. "Tyler Weilbrenner, our playmaker, got the ball through and got past the defense. (Tyler's) shot bounced on the crossbar and Isaac just took it off his chest and ran it right in.''

Craig coach Charles Friedrich said Weilbrenner played heads up after gaining control of the ball.''

"(Weilbrenner) is a very savvy player," Friedrich said. "He bides his time and the moment he has an opportunity, he creates."

Parker walked off with its first league victory and avenged a 1-0 nonconference loss to Craig earlier this season.

"It was a quintessential Parker-Craig match," Fried-rich said. "It was back and forth.''

Wunn gave Craig the initial lead on a shot from outside the box from his off foot, which found nothing but net.

Arvizo brought Parker back to even the match with four-plus minutes left in the half.

"I never felt so good after Pedro's goal," Holmes said. "We moved him from fullback to forward.''

Parker is 1-8-0 in the Big Eight and 4-15-1 overall. Craig is 0-9-0 the Big Eight and

6-12-1 overall.

"This (win) was huge for us," Holmes said.

This was one of the best HS soccer games I have ever seen. Both teams played their hearts out. Way to go Parker and Craig! Now if we just beat one of those Madison teams!!
