Parker finishes with tennis win

Janesville Parker's girls tennis team wrapped up the Big Eight dual meet season in impressive fashion Wednesday afternoon.

The Vikings, thanks to wins in three of the four singles matches, coasted past Madison La Follette, 5-2.

Parker finished the conference season 3-6.

Becky Harmata, Meghann Hoag and Megan Mitchell won at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Parker also got wins from the No. 1 doubles team of Elizabeth Severance and Rosalie Sellman, along with the No. 2 team of Emma Frerichs and Heather Bailey.

"Our top three singles players have been playing really well lately, and our doubles teams keep rolling along," Parker coach Justin Long said. "This was a great win and a great way to wrap up the regular season before our conference meet."

Parker is off until it ompetes in the Big Eight Tournament on Friday, Sept. 28 at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.

Singles—Becky Harmata (P) def. Megan Monson, 6-1, 6-2; Meghann Hoag (P) def. Sasha Walkowski, 6-2, 7-5; Megan Mitchell (P) def. Sara Moldenhauer, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5; Kristina Kennedy (L) def. Karly Stowers, 6-2, 6-0.

Doubles—Elizabeth Severance-Rosalie Sellman (P) def. Madeline Westeberg-Molly Brunner, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2; Emma Frerichs-Heather Bailey (P) def. Gabby Stein-Alysa Ninnemann, 7-5, 6-2; Roxie Smith-Mercie Brown (L) def. Constance Beyer-Joey Turner, 6-0, 6-0.

Junior varsity—La Follette 7, Parker 0.
