— Singles play proved to be the difference Tuesday afternoon for the Janesville Parker girls tennis team.

The Vikings swept all four singles matches in a 5-2 Big Eight Conference win over crosstown rival Janesville Craig.

Parker (2-6) got wins in singles from Becky Harmata, Meghann Hoag, Megan Mitchell and Emma Frerichs. The Vikings' No. 1 doubles team of Rosalie Sellman and Elizabeth Severance were also victorious.

"We actually lost a scrimmage to Craig early in the year by a score of 4-3," Parker coach Justin Long said. "So to come out today with a four-match difference really says a lot about how far we've come.

"Overall, I couldn't be more happy because we won our last home dual meet of the season and it came against Craig. I couldn't ask for more."

Craig (2-6) got wins at No. 2 doubles from Hayley Hughes and Kenzie Trappe, along with the No. 3 doubles team of Sara Runde and Sierra Reese.

"Parker got the job done tonight, and my hat is off to them," Craig coach Bill Peyer said. "It came down to who wanted it more.

"We lost a couple of tough three-set matches and that was the difference between winning and losing."

Craig hosts Beloit Memorial in its final conference meet of the season Thursday, while Parker concludes its Big Eight schedule at Madison La Follette.
