East Troy, Jefferson look like RVC North favorites

East Troy and Jefferson appear to be the cream of the crop of the Rock Valley North this season.

Both teams moved to 3-0 on the season as East Troy defeated visiting Palmyra-Eagle, 26-0, and Jefferson rolled past visiting Clinton, 46-21, in a round of crossover games Friday night.

Four different players scored for East Troy in its shutout win over the Panthers.

Quarterback Brandon Matz rushed 18 times for 71 yards and completed eight of 18 passes for 166 yards for the Trojans (2-0, 3-0).

Matz hit Cody Zaeske with a 22-yard pass to open the scoring, and then scored on a six-yard run.

Matz later hit Nate Dodge with a 70-yard pass to complete the scoring.

Joey Dedick rushed 11 times for 85 yards and scored on a two-yard run for the Trojans.

Palmyra-Eagle was held to 107 total yards.

n Jefferson 46, Clinton 21—Zeke Emrick scored five touchdowns to run his season total to 12 and the Eagles (2-0 in RVC North, 3-0 overall) kept pace with East Troy with a convincing victory against visiting Clinton.

Emrick scored on runs of 2, 53, 1, 9 and 35 yards and finished with 309 yards on 22 carries. Emrick had 18 touchdowns last season.

Emrick’s big game helped the Eagles keep ahead of the Cougars’ Jacob Marchillo. The junior quarterback rushed 28 times for 181 yards, including scoring runs of 62, 6 and 2 yards. Marchillo also threw for 154 yards and ran for a two-point conversion.

Clinton fell to 0-3.

n Edgerton 14, Brodhead/Juda 6—Edgerton registered its first victory over Brodhead/Juda in several seasons.

Quarterback Sutton DeVoll scored on a two-yard run, and Lucas Gregory caught an 11-yard scoring pass from Brooks Johnson to help give the Crimson Tide a 14-0 halftime lead.

After Edgerton just missed on a 28-yard field goal attempt, the Cardinals got to within one score on Hunter Colden’s 1-yard run. Gregory then blocked the extra-point attempt.

Brodhead/Juda drove to the Edgerton 28 in the final seconds, but the Crimson Tide’s Thomas Weger intercepted a final pass in the end zone.

Edgerton’s Jacob Grams rushed for 112 yards on 16 carries, while Gregory caught five passes for 61 yards.

Reeve Lincoln had 97 yards on 21 carries to lead the Cardinals (0-3, 0-3).

n McFarland 27, Park-view 20—Clayton Neitzel ran for two touchdowns and threw the game-winning pass to Antwon Washington with 10:32 left in the game to lead McFarland past visiting Parkview.

Riley Pearson led the Vikings (1-1, 2-1) with 111 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns. Elliot Olsen added 110 yards on 13 carries as the Vikings rushed for 327 yards.

Nicholas Perkl paced the Spartans (1-1, 2-1) with 162 yards on 11 carries, including the game-tying 54-yard scoring run with 9:16 left in the third.

n Whitewater 42, Turner 6—Wendell Welter and Zach Miles powered the Whippets past the host Trojans.

Welter scored on runs of 2, 51 and 25 yards en route to rushing for 113 yards on six carries. Miles added touchdown runs of 59 and 4 yards and gained 112 yards on just seven carries.

Whitewater did not attempt a pass in the game.

Clayton Stenulson scored the Trojans’ only touchdown on a 2-yard run.
