— Janesville-based grocer Woodman's Food Market continues to expand.

The company opened a store in Sun Prairie in mid-August, and construction is under way on another store in Waukesha.

The Sun Prairie store covers 225,000 square feet, according to the company website. "Everything's going as we expected," Woodman's President Phil Woodman said. "It's acting like any other new store we've built over the years."

The Sun Prairie location opened Aug. 15 and will host a grand opening Sunday, Sept. 16.

Woodman's has owned the plot on which the Sun Prairie location sits for about a decade. Woodman said the company purchased the land before the Reiner Road/County C exit off Highway 151 was expanded.

"It was a long, drawn-out ordeal," Woodman said. "We finally decided it was time … to go ahead and build, knowing full well that a portion of Sun Prairie's business would come from the Madison East store."

The Sun Prairie location has displaced about 20 percent of the business at Woodman's Madison East location, Woodman said.

Construction began this summer on a store located at the corner of Main Street and Highway 164 in Waukesha. It is set for an October 2013 opening, Woodman said.

"You're either growing or you're dying," Woodman said. "We're at 14 stores now."
