One person airlifted in two-vehicle crash
JANESVILLE A helicopter transported one victim and four more people were hurt in a two-vehicle crash Monday night at the intersection of County A and County H west of Janesville.
The accident occurred around 6 p.m. when one vehicle was headed west and the other east on County A, said Sgt. Troy Egger of the Rock County Sheriff's office.
The eastbound vehicle, with only a driver, tried to turn north onto County H in front of the westbound vehicle, a minivan with five occupants, Egger said.
The minivan driver was Derek Thomas of 308 S. Franklin St., Janesville. He was transported to UW Hospital in Madison by helicopter, according to the Janesville Fire Department.
Sitting next to Thomas was Robert Stevens of 720 Yuba St., Janesville.
Stevens, Thomas' wife and the Thomases' two children, ages 7 and 11, all were transported with non-life-threatening injuries, the fire department reported.
The driver of the eastbound vehicle was not immediately identified. She was not transported by ambulance but was checked out at a hospital, Egger said.
Initial indications are that alcohol was not a factor in the accident, Egger said.
