Knilans-Kolste debate rescheduled
JANESVILLE The debate over the debate might soon be resolved.
The Janesville League of Women Voters announced Tuesday the debate between Rep. Joe Knilans, R-Janesville, and Deb Kolste, his Democratic challenger for the 44th Assembly District seat, has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday.
The debate will be held in the program room at Hedberg Public Library, 316 S. Main St., Janesville and is being sponsored by the league, Forward Janesville and JATV.
"We are pleased that both candidates are able to participate in the rescheduled candidate forum," league chapter president Amy Golackson said in a news release. "Forums such as this provide important information for voters about upcoming elections and the candidates who are running in them."
The debate had been scheduled for Oct. 2 but was canceled after Knilans withdrew, saying he had another campaign-related event. At the time, campaign manager Tyler Wenzlaff refused to specifically identify the event.
Knilans had agreed to participate in the forum Aug. 28, two weeks after Kolste defeated three others in the Democratic primary. On Tuesday, Wenzlaff said he was in the field and didn't have Knilans campaign calendar with him and couldn't say where Knilans was Oct. 2.
