Trial date scheduled for former Big Brother

ELKHORN — The former president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rock, Walworth and Jefferson counties is scheduled to face trial in April on charges he repeatedly sexually assaulted two boys he mentored in the program.
Rodney Meiller, 51, Elkhorn, is charged with three counts of first-degree repeated sexual assault of the same child involving two boys ages 11 and 14. Lake Geneva police arrested Meiller in June after one of the boys and his mother reported multiple sexual assaults.
Lake Geneva Police Chief Michael Rasmussen reported the boy said the assaults took place in the Lake Geneva YMCA. Both the YMCA and Big Brothers Big Sisters have severed all ties with Meiller.
The incidents occurred between July 1, 2011, and June 7, 2012, with the 11-year-old, and between Jan. 1, 2004, and Aug. 31, 2010, with the 14-year-old, according to the criminal complaint.
The 14-year-old boy came forward with his claim in July. Prosecutors filed amended charges July 26, 2012, charging Meiller with two counts of repeatedly sexually assaulting the 11-year-old and one count of repeatedly sexually assaulting the 14-year-old.
Meiller pleaded not guilty Aug. 30 to all charges.
At a status conference Thursday, Meiller's attorney, Jenelle Glasbrenner, told Walworth County Judge James Carlson that a plea agreement could not be reached. Walworth County Deputy District Attorney Joshua Grube agreed.
Carlson set aside three days, April 22-24, for a trial and asked both sides to file any motions at least 30 days before then.
Meiller remains free on a $5,000 cash bond.
