Your daily look at late-breaking news, upcoming events and stories that will be talked about today:

1. OBAMA TAKES “FISCAL CLIFF” FIGHT OUTSIDE THE BELTWAY

The president will employ campaign-style tactics in the Philadelphia suburbs, hoping to mobilize public support as the year-end deadline for reaching a deal with Congress over taxes and spending cuts looms.

2. WHY U.N. VOTE RECOGNIZING PALESTINE MAY ULTIMATELY DISAPPOINT

Real independence remains an elusive dream until the Palestinians negotiate a peace deal with the Israelis.

3. ISLAMISTS APRROVE EGYPT’S CONSTITUTION

A draft constitution is passed without the participation of liberal and Christian members, a move that further inflames the clash between the opposition and President Mohammed Morsi.

4. WHO MIGHT’VE HIT THE POWERBALL JACKPOT

The Missouri Lottery confirms one winning ticket and is expected to reveal the winner at 11 a.m. The second ticket holder, in Arizona, remains a mystery.

5. SENATE REVIVES DEBATE ON CIVIL LIBERTIES

By voting that American citizens suspected of terrorism and seized on U.S. soil may not be held indefinitely, it sets up a fight with the House, which rejected efforts to bar indefinite detention earlier this year.

6. RIGHTS GROUP URGES MORE COMPASSIONATE PRISON RELEASES

For humanitarian and economic reasons, the federal Bureau of Prisons should grant more early releases to incapacitated and terminally ill prisoners, advocacy groups say in a report.

7. MYANMAR TACKLES CITIZENSHIP QUANDARY

In an exclusive report by AP’s Todd Pitman, authorities in western Myanmar are tasked with determining who is a citizen. Rohingya Muslims seem to have the most to lose.

8. SOURCE TELLS AP: STRAUSS-KAHN AGREES TO SETTLE WITH ACCUSER

Hotel maid’s lawsuit alleged that the former IMF chief tried to rape her in a New York hotel.

9. RESEARCHERS NAIL DOWN SEA MYSTERY

Scientists have figured out how to determine the age of a lobster — by the number of rings in its eyestalk or in the teeth-like structures found in its stomach.

10. NOT SO SAINTLY NIGHT FOR BREES

The star quarterback throws five interceptions, damaging New Orleans’ playoff hopes in a 23-13 loss to rival Atlanta.

How can any one on here even attempt to get angry at the politicians for not getting along when most of you have nothing good to say other than its his/hers fault, that party sucks, their a crook!
At what point do some of you get it that they both suck and equally! Neither party really cares about us little people. They only care about being in power and making us think all our problems are someone elses fault. If one of the two parties actually gave a crap and always did what was best for our country as a whole, there would only be one party! Both parties caused it. Neither party can create a balanced budget without making millions of American's very angry because we won't get our free stuff anymore.
The negativity just keeps oozing out of quite a few people on here! If your a die hard party follower, then fine. But if your not able to look at the many mistakes that party has made over the years because both parties have made a bunch and recognize what did and didn't work long term, only then can you sit at the adult table to have meaningful conversations/debates on what our country needs to do in order to get on the right path!
It's reality check time folks! Who's in?

In his opening monologue on NBC's Tonight Show, the host said, "You know what you call the two winners of that $580 million Powerball lottery? Former Democrats"

onedayatatime - This is a small business that doesn't provide health insurance. There are a lot of small businesses that don't and can't afford to provide health insurance as an option to their employees. These are the folks that are going to get hurt and even more, the employees that will loose their jobs because the owners will close shop because they can't afford the insurance and keep the books in the black! See if they can't keep their checking account in the black, there is no group of people that will take a vote to print more money for their account! The people that have that authority are the same ones that are demanding that they provide health insurance to their employees.

Janesvillean - Do you think the job growth in the private sector is good enough or do you think we should be able to demand better of our leaders? I understand Government doesn't create jobs in the private sector, but they also have the ability to make it either extremely difficult or user friendly for people to want to risk their life savings on a chance at the American Dream. I know of one small business that ran the numbers and will have no choice but to close the doors in the Milwaukee area because they will not be able to provide the mandatory insurance per Obamacare and stay afloat. I'm sure if this is happening to them, this will not be an isolated issue. Its a great idea to demand employer's to provide insurance for their employee's but when the company runs the numbers to provide insurance and it puts them into the red zone, they don't have the same ability to print more money like the ones mandating their policies do!
When Obamacare policies go into full effect, get ready for private sector growth to die and die fast! Agree/Dissagree, doesn't really matter to me. Eventually the water Washington keeps turning into wine will stop, because the water supply is going to run out!

Obama wants to INCREASE spending by extending the unemployment benefits even more than they are and increase funding for underwater mortgages so that will wipe out any debt savings to the increased taxes on those making over $200,000. Tax and spend remind of you of someone?

Obama needs to put EVERYTHING on the table, taxes AND entitlements. He wants to do the tax increases in 2013 and the spending cuts in 2014. Like a previous poster said that's like put a bandaid on to stop massive bleeding. And yet he is jetting all over the country campaigning! Go back to DC and do your job! And he leaves for another vacation in Hawaii shortly!

So when does Obama start talking about creating all those jobs he talked about during his campaign? I don't care who does it but if the private sector doesn't get going and going fast, its game over! I don't care who you voted for or who you like, the private sector is our economy and its not looking good!
The federal government could take every penny/asset from every american that makes $250,000 or more and you would only come up with just over $4 Trillion. I got that information from a Federal Treasury Officer so its not made up! So now where does the other $12 Trillion come from and since the job creators are no longer employing anyone, so now what? If you think raising taxes is going to solve the problem, then please wake up from the pipe dream because it is going to turn into a nightmare very soon! Folks, we need to stop blaming the other party for everything that is going bad in our lives. It doesn't matter who does it or who fixes it but our country doesn't have a true solution to the problem. All they are doing is bandaids to slow down the bleeding. At some point the blood (borrowed money) is going to run out!
