Brodhead schools superintendent announces retirement
BRODHEAD Brodhead schools Superintendent Chuck Deery has announced plans to retire at the end of the school year.
The school board accepted Deery's resignation at its meeting Wednesday night.
Nothing has been decided about how to fill the position, school board President Teresa Earleywine said after the meeting. The board will discuss the issue at its Wednesday, Dec. 12, meeting, she said.
Deery was hired as superintendent 12 years ago.
In his resignation letter to the school board, Deery said he is looking forward to retirement but has enjoyed his work in education over the past 35 years, especially his time in Brodhead.
He said he considers Brodhead to be the finest of all the districts he's worked in.
"Words cannot express my appreciation and thanks for the great staff we have in Brodhead and all that they do to make our schools a great place for kids," he wrote. "I leave knowing that the future of the district is in good hands and that our expectation and tradition of excellence will continue."
He said he will do all he can to help in the transition to a new leader.
