Delavan-Darien High defeated Whitewater 62-51 Tuesday in a nonconference boys basketball season-opener.

The Whippets scored eight straight points in the third quarter to bounce back from a 27-21 halftime deficit for a 29-27 lead. The Comets answered with four three-point baskets to take a 48-37 lead into the fourth quarter.

Steph Rodriguez scored 19 points for the Comets. Teammates Jesse Collins and Danny Supernaw scored 12 points apiece. Whitewater's Dustin Hayes and Brett Harms scored 12 points each.

-- Monticello 73, Parkview 43—Ben May and Bryce Klitzke combined to score 49 points and lead Monticello to its nonconference victory over the visiting Vikings.

Parkview jumped to a 6-0 lead and led by seven a couple of times in the second quarter, before the Ponies rallied to tie the game at 29-all at halftime.

Monticello then forced several turnovers and outscored Parkview, 44-14, in the second half.

May had 28 points and Bryce Klitzke 21 for the winners.

Jameson Lavery had 11 points to lead the Vikings.
