Missing sex offender arrested in Janesville
JANESVILLE Janesville police Thursday arrested a registered sex offender accused of cutting off his GPS monitoring bracelet Oct. 30.
Officer Brad Rau received a tip on the whereabouts of Richard J. Hoyt, 24, of 212½ Linn St. Police arrested Hoyt after confirming he was at a residence in the 500 block of South Academy Street, Sgt. Charles Aagaard said.
He had been staying in a household that includes two children, Aagaard said.
Hoyt surrendered after police searched the home and heard officers discussing bringing in a K-9, Aagaard said.
Hoyt was arrested at 1 p.m. Thursday on charges of absconding from supervision. He remained custody Friday at the Rock County Jail.
Hoyt cut off the GPS tracking bracelet he was ordered to wear because of a 2010 conviction for first-degree sexual assault of a child, Aagaard said.
The resident Hoyt was staying with has two boys, ages 3 and 5, Aagaard said.
Child Protective Services removed the children from the home pending further investigation.
