Hoskins leads Craig baseball's power surge
Craig finished in second place in the Big Eight with a 14-4 record and is 19-6 overall.
"Our hitters overall did a great job," Craig coach Victor Herbst said. "They were patient at the plate and went deep into the count.''
Dylan Hoskins led the Cougars with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs in four at-bats. Riley Quinn added three hits, while Brandon Luebke, Brandon Hughes and Nick Blomgren added two hits apiece.
The Cougars first six hitters combined to go 13 for 24 for the game.
"It's about as well as we've hit all season," Herbst said. "It's good to have our bats come around before the sectional.''
The Cougars took a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Hoskins' triple scored a pair of runs to highlight the early blitz.
East jumped back with five runs to knot the game in the third on six hits off Luebke. Troy Malmanger replaced Craig's starter and held East to one run on three hits the rest of the way to gain the victory.
"Malmanger never faced more than five guys in an inning," Herbst said. "He did a great job.''
Craig hosts the winner of the Verona vs. Oregon game Thursday at Riverside Park.
