Mitchell’s homers lead Kernels past Beloit Snappers

— Gary Mitchell homered twice Wednesday night to lead Cedar Rapids to a 5-3 win over Beloit in a Midwest League game at Pohlman Field.

Beloit took a 2-0 lead in the third on Wang-Wei Lin’s two-run double, but Cedar Rapids took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth. Lin cut the deficit to two in the ninth with a sacrifice fly, but Nate Roberts grounded into a double play to end the game.

Matthew Summers (4-3) allowed five runs in five innings for the loss.

Game two of the three-game home series is 11 a.m. today.
