— Craig High suffered a 7-6 loss Monday to Fort Atkinson in nonconference softball.

“It was a playoff atmosphere,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. “It was a pretty good game. (Fort Atkinson) just made a few more plays than we did.’’

Craig is 14-6 overall.

The visiting Cougars took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third on three hits and two errors, but the Blackhawks bounced back with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Craig took a 6-3 lead with three runs in the fourth, but Fort Atkinson scored a run in the bottom of the inning and took the lead with three runs in the sixth.

After an error, base hit and a walk, Lexi Weigand unloaded two-run scoring single with two outs to give Fort Atkinson the lead.

“The loss put us down one seed (for the regional),” Bayreuther said. “If we would have won, we would have been ahead of Fort Atkinson.’’

Craig hosts Beloit Memorial at 4:30 p.m. today at the Youth Sports Complex.
