Orfordville Orioles win HTL opener
The Orfordville Orioles defeated the Lake Mills Greys, 5-0, Sunday in a Home Talent League Southeast Division season opener.
Joe Lange tossed a one-hitter, striking out 21 and walking none. Lange’s no-hit bid ended in the ninth inning when he allowed a single.
Lange knocked in the only run the Orioles would need with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. B.J. Cook added a two-run triple, and Ryan Schmitz hit an RBI single to put the Orioles on top, 4-0, in the seventh. Cody Scott’s sacrifice fly scored the Orioles’ final run.
In other Southeast Division openers:
-- McFarland 8, Whitewater 2—Whitewater made five errors and was outhit 9-2 en route to the defeat.
-- Albion 12, Deerfield 0—Tigers starter Josh Eastman tossed a one-hitter and notched 12 strikeouts to dominate Deerfield.
-- Jefferson 6, Stoughton 1—Jefferson hammered out 10 hits, and Tom Klug scattered six hits and struckout five for the complete-game victory.
-- Fort Atkinson 8, Utica 6—Utica scored five runs in the ninth inning, but Fort Atkinson hung on for the victory.
