— Janesville Parker baseball coach Brian Martin thought his team was ready to turn around its season when it defeated Madison East, 5-2 on Tuesday.

There is still work to be done.

Madison West defeated the visiting Vikings, 9-0, in a Big Eight Conference game Thursday.

"It was maybe our worst game both defensively and offensively," Martin said. "We only had three hits."

The Regents scored four runs in the first inning and added five more in the sixth.

Meanwhile, West pitcher Jake Fleischman shut down the Viking offense.

"He threw strikes," Martin said of the Regent senior. "He had some decent off-speed pitches. We were baffled. We had no idea what was coming.

"Obviously we have some things to work on."

The Vikings are scheduled to play two games at Edgerton on Saturday. Parker opens against Watertown at 10 a.m. at Race Track Park, then play either Edgerton or Lake Mills after that.
