Rock, Walworth County voter turnouts higher than predicted
"We really don't have anything to compare it to," said Walworth County Clerk Kim Bushey.
In Rock County, Tom Barrett defeated Kathleen Falk 10,035 to 8,445. Barrett took 50.1 percent of the county's vote and Falk took 42.1 percent. The remaining votes went to Doug La Follette, Kathleen Vinehout and Gladys Huber.
In Walworth County, Barrett defeated Falk 4,780 to 2,667. Barrett took 59.6 percent of the county's vote and Falk took 33.2 percent.
Scott Walker handily defeated his opponent, Arthur Kohl-Riggs, throughout the state.
In Walworth County, 37 percent of registered voters went to the polls, Bushey said.
"I think the state was predicting between 30 and 35 percent," she said.
Rock County Clerk Lori Stottler said 39 percent of registered county voters turned out.
The town of Porter had the highest turnout with 52 percent of registered voters going to the polls. Ward 8 in the city of Beloit had the lowest turnout with 7 percent.
In Walworth County, a few of the townships requested additional ballots in the middle of the day.
"I don't know if they used them or not," Bushey said. "They just wanted to be prepared."
Stottler said that poll workers reported "a steady day" with few problems.
One of the towns had an incomplete poll list, and another had an computer issue, but they were resolved quickly, she said.
