— One inning proved costly for Craig High on Monday in a 6-2 loss to visiting Verona in Big Eight Conference softball.

Craig fell to 7-3 in the Big Eight and 10-3 overall.

The Wildcats scored six runs on five hits and three errors in the third inning to seal Craig’s fate.

“It was a nightmare inning,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. “Other than that inning, we were pretty good. But that inning was our worst inning of the year, and it cost us the game.’’

The Cougars were held to five hits—two from freshman Sydney Cramer, who had a double and a triple and drove in both of Craig’s runs.

“She laced two balls to the fence,” Bayreuther said. “That was good to see.’’

Craig hosts Madison Memorial at 4:30 p.m. today.
