— The 2012 girls high school soccer season got off to a rough start for Janesville Parker.

The Vikings, with only 13 players suited up, lost a 7-0 nonconference game to Racine Case.

Parker trailed 4-0 at half despite several strong saves from goalkeeper Emily Richardson.

"I was really proud of the way the girls played today considering how shorthanded we were," Parker coach Amy Wargowsky said. "Between a school field trip and spring break, we only had 13 players with us today, and one got hurt.

"Case is a good program and a good team to start against. "We're pretty young, but we will get better when we've got our whole team together after break."

Parker plays Elkhorn on April 10.

"Speth and Crandall are our two attackers," said Craig coach Bill McCabe. "They play well off each other."

McCabe said the Craig offense starts from the back.

"The defensive backs did a really good job," he said. "They read the game better in the second half."

Maddie Schroeder made seven saves for Craig.

"She did a nice job in goal," McCabe said. "She's only a sophomore."

The end result was the first victory.

"Everybody got into the game. They deserved to," McCabe said. "Everyone has been working hard the first 10 days. We got a good look at everyone."
