Janesville Craig's softball team began the 2012 season in impressive fashion Thursday.

The Cougars banged out 14 hits, while two pitchers combined for a one-hitter as Craig blanked Waunakee, 15-0, in a nonconference game.

Craig jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first and never looked back. The game was called after five inning due to the 10-run rule.

"Overall, it was a good outing for the first game," Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. "We swung the bats well, stole some bases and got good pitching."

Paige Weber picked up the win, allowing only one hit in four innings of work. The senior struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Leigh Grall and Stephanie Perleberg had three hits each for Craig. The Cougars finished with five doubles, including two by Perleberg.

Craig plays Fort Atkinson at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Janesville Youth Sports Complex, followed by a noon game against Milton.
