New Rock Haven quickly taking shape

JANESVILLE What it is: It's hard to tell what's sprouting faster: Tulips and daffodils or Rock County's new 128-bed nursing home near the intersection of highways 14 and 51 on Janesville's north side.
Construction is well under way on the four "neighborhood" buildings that will each be home to 32 residents at Rock Haven. The basement has been poured for a community building that will sit in the middle of the four residential buildings, said Sherry Gunderson, Rock Haven administrator.
The complex also will feature two courtyards. Once those are finished, the contractor will enclose the complex with two team buildings that will serve as operations centers for the four residential buildings.
What's the progress: Mild weather has kept construction crews on schedule, Gunderson said, and the progress is visible on almost a daily basis for travelers on Highway 14.
Start date: Groundbreaking was Sept. 29; construction began Oct. 3.
Completion date target: Early October 2012. Gunderson said the seven buildings will undergo a state review in October, and the complex will be furnished in November.
Residents, she said, are expected to move into their private rooms on Dec. 3.
Cost: $31 million.

Finally, something Janesville was in need of! Not a strip mall; not a cash loan store. Thank you for building this new facility! Not everyone can afford to be in fancy nursing homes, but they should at least have a nice place to stay.
