Jets lose grip on first place

— The visiting Janesville Jets lost their hold on first place in the Midwest Division with their second straight loss to the St. Louis Bandits, 3-1, in North American Hockey League action Saturday.

The Jets fell to 35-15-3 and Bandits improved to 35-13-2 to hold a 72-71 lead in points. The teams play the rubber match of the three-game series this afternoon.

Ryan Stouffer gave the Bandits a 1-0 lead with a goal at 7 minutes, 28 seconds of the first period. Jake Horton’s goal pulled Janesville into a tie at 1:39 of the second period.

Rance Hughes gave St. Louis the lead for good, 2-1, with a goal at 6:57 of the second. The Bandits added an empty-net goal at 19:04 of the third to seal the victory.

Tony Kujava stopped 17 shots for Janesville, while the Bandits Tyler Green stopped 24.
