Woman faces homicide charge
A Crystal Lake, Ill., woman is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday on charges of first-degree reckless homicide by the delivery of drugs in connection with the death of a Spring Prairie Township man.
Lisa C. Jurgens, 28, was arrested Aug. 2, and remains in the Walworth County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond. She faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.
Dr. Mark D. Molot, a pathologist for the Walworth County Coroner’s Office, listed lethal injection of heroin as the cause of death for Codie A. Krueger, 21.
Walworth County drug unit deputies and a Whitewater police detective arrested Jurgens in Crystal Lake after setting up an undercover drug buy. Officers were led to Jurgens after reviewing text messages to her from Krueger’s cell phone.
After reviewing the text messages, officers indicated in the criminal complaint filed by the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office that the messages were between Krueger and his heroin dealer.
The criminal complaint alleges that during an interview after her arrest, Jurgens told officers she “uses and sells heroin” and admitted she “picked up seven bags of heroin on Sunday, July 31, 2011, and sold two of them to Codie that Sunday.”
Krueger died the next day.
Officers reported finding Jurgens in possession of the cell phone used to text Krueger.
Wednesday’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. before Walworth County Circuit Court Judge John R. Race.
