Lake Geneva Badger outright Lakes champion, Elkhorn wins

Lake Geneva Badger’s girls basketball team left little doubt Thursday night who the best team was this season in the Southern Lakes Conference.


Lana Wieseman scored 18 points to lead the Badgers to a 53-30 win over Delavan-Darien and the outright Southern Lakes title. Badger (15-7, 11-3) came into the game tied with Waterford and Union Grove for the Lakes lead, but both those teams lost Thursday night.


Badger, which opens WIAA Division 1 tournament play at Janesville Parker (15-7) next Friday night, jumped out to a 10-point lead after one quarter and pushed the advantage to 23 by half.


The two teams were a combined 5 of 27 from three-point range.

title by upsetting the visiting Wolverines.


The Elks finished fourth with a 9-5 record.


Four Elkhorn players scored in double figures, led by Erin Schahczinski’s 15 points. Schahczinski hit seven of eight free throws in the final quarter to help keep the Elks ahead.


Jessica Hauser added 14 points, Allyson Reeves 13 and Grace Ames contributed 12 in the victory, which put Elkhorn at 11-11 overall.


Stephanie Rank scored 29 points for Waterford, which finished 10-4 in the conference and 13-9 overall going into tournament play.
