— Several area fire departments responded to a fire in far southern Rock County that left a home with heavy damage Thursday, according to a news release from the town of Beloit Fire Department.

The fire department, along with fire crews from Orfordville, town of Turtle and South Beloit, Ill., fire departments, responded to reports of a house on fire at 4911 West Pann Road, just west of the city of Beloit on the Wisconsin-Illinois state line.

The call came in at about 5:45 p.m., according to the news release. When firefighters arrived, smoke and flames were coming from the roof around a fireplace pipe.

The fire department has not given a cause of the fire, but it reported that firefighters contained the fire to an area around a fireplace and in part of the attic. Firefighters had to cut several holes in the roof and remove the ceiling in the living room to put water on flames in the attic.

The home had fire and water damage totaling $35,000, with $5,000 in damages to property, according to the news release.

Residents were able to escape without injury, according to the news release. The home is uninhabitable. The residents are staying with relatives.
