— The Milton City Council on Wednesday appointed Deputy City Clerk Michelle Ebbert to fill the vacant role of city clerk on an interim basis.

Outgoing City Clerk Nancy Zastrow resigned last week effective July 6 to take a job as clerk of the village of Pewaukee.

Ebbert, who is deputy clerk, has worked in Milton City Hall for 10 years, officials said.

City Administrator Jerry Schuetz said that Ebbert will serve as interim clerk as the city builds its budget this fall. During that time, the council has agreed to offer Ebbert additional compensation of $400 a month over her current salary, Schuetz said.

Meanwhile, Schuetz said the city will "evaluate city hall staffing and structure" and "redistribute duty assignments of roles of city staff."

The clerk will remain a full-time position, Schuetz said, but the council has not decided whether to permanently appoint Ebbert or another internal employee as clerk or fill the vacancy through an outside recruitment.
