Albion stays perfect, Evansville wins

The Albion Tigers improved to 9-0 with a 4-3 victory Sunday over Utica in Home Talent League baseball.

The Tigers’ Adam Gregory scored the winning run from first after Utica’s right fielder misplayed Kyle Johnson’s single in the third inning. Utica added a run in the eighth.

Albion leads the West Division of the Southeast Section.

Matt Buhrow (4-0) went the distance for the victory, allowing three runs on seven hits. Buhrow notched nine strikeouts and walked three.

Albion scored three runs in the first inning on Johnson’s RBI single and Jesse Appel’s two-run double. Albion had 10 hits.

-- Evansville 3, Stoughton 1: Jeremy Rasmussen turned in a strong pitching performance to lead Evansville to the victory.

Rasmussen was perfect through four innings. In 7 1/3 innings, he allowed six hits, no walks and struck out four.

Evansville moved to 4-5 in the Southeast’s West Division.

Evansville scored a run in the second inning as Craig Payton’s double drove in Brad Brey, who had singled.

Evansville added two runs in the third. John Duerst hit a leadoff double, moved to third on Mike Maves’ single, and scored on Danny Crans’ sacrifice fly. Maves then scored by stealing home.

Stoughton’s Justin Moore hit an RBI single in the seventh.
