What it is: Taco Bell of America has demolished its former store at 2626 Humes Road in Janesville and will replace it with a new restaurant.

The original Taco Bell opened in the Village Plaza in 1988.

Taco Bell will build a somewhat larger restaurant on the same site.

The company says the new building will be 26 percent larger. The updated design will provide optimized kitchen flow, better handicapped accessibility in the dining area and a less congested seating area than the former restaurant, according to documents filed with the city of Janesville.

Taco Bell wants to build the new store to meet current design standards and accommodate future needs. Documents indicate the new Taco Bell will be similar in size, architecture and color scheme to the Taco Bell that opened at 1619 Milton Ave. in 2005.
