Three Janesville Craig softball players on first team

Three Janesville Craig softball players wrapped up impressive careers by being named to the All-Big Eight Conference first team.

Infielders Haley Bayreuther and Leigh Grall joined outfielder Stephanie Perleberg as first-team picks. Bayreuther is a three-time first-team choice, while Grall and Perleberg are two-time first teamers.

Craig pitcher Paige Weber was a second-team selection, and infielder Nicole Kelly and outfielder Sydney Cramer were honorable mention.

Parker High’s Ashley Ross was an honorable mention utility player and teammate Kayce Chesebro was an honorable mention outfielder.

Bayreuther batted .415 with 27 hits, including five doubles, three triples and a home run for the Big Eight season. Bayreuther had a .904 fielding percentage at shortstop.

Grall hit .484, with 30 hits, including three doubles, two triples and two home runs. Perleberg hit 349, with 22 hits, including two doubles, and two home runs.

Weber finished 13-5 in the Big Eight with a 1.47 ERA. Weber notched 94 strikeouts and issued 25 walks. Kelly hit .306 and Cramer hit .359.

Craig finished 13-5 in the Big Eight and second to Big Eight champion Sun Prairie

“All six seniors are going to be hard to replace,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. “They were a pretty good class all the way through from freshmen up.”

Madison La Follette sophomore pitcher Nicole Newman was named Player of the Year for the second straight season.

Outfielders—Lori Lynch (Beloit), Mary Otterlein (East), Briana Peterson (Sun Prairie),

Utility—Leslie Banzhaf (Verona).

Player of the Year—Nicole Newman (La Follette).
