— The chances of winning the Western Division’s first-half title are fading fast for the Beloit Snappers.

The Snappers managed only five hits Wednesday night in a 7-1 loss to the Peoria Chiefs in a Midwest League game at Pohlman Field.

Beloit now trails first-place Wisconsin by six games in the Western Division.

Peoria jumped on Beloit starter Steven Gruver (5-5) with three runs in the top of the first.

Javier Baez and Dustin Geiger homered for Peoria.

The teams wrap up the three-game series tonight.
